We teach tabletop as a craft

Keenstream Atelier was founded by designers who publish. Our practice blends systems thinking with tactile empathy—every component serves a readable decision.

Mission

Enable designers to create table-friendly games that are elegant to learn, confident to teach, and satisfying to replay.

Principles

  • Reduce cognitive load with visible state and crisp iconography
  • Seek replayability through incentives, not complexity
  • Prototype faster than you can theorize
  • Let playtests answer questions you can’t

Method

Paper-first prototyping, structured playtesting, and evidence-based iteration documented in an accessible decision log.

Our story

We began as a small workshop inside an independent publisher. What started as internal upskilling became a full curriculum after our capstone cohort shipped three retail-ready prototypes with clean manufacturing specs and playtest-backed rules.

Team

Maya Voss

Creative Director, Systems Design

Playtest Strategist

Designs test protocols, surveys, and telemetry sheets that turn qualitative play into measurable insight.

How a cohort flows

  1. Scoping: define verbs, win conditions, and a testable core loop
  2. Prototype: paper build with cost-aware components
  3. Playtest: recruit, facilitate, analyze, and iterate
  4. Polish: art direction, rules edit, and accessibility checks
  5. Pitch: publisher deck, BOM, and tabletop simulator file
